MUSIC
St. Paul's Church in Troy

Music at St. Paul's Church

The St. Paul's Choristers trace their distinguished history back to the time of the parish's founding in 1804. St. Paul's Church had the first vested choir in the City of Troy, and has maintained a long tradition of fine music both for its worship services and for special musical events, including the popular Tuesday at Noon Concerts.

These include Choral Evensong on several Sunday afternoons, as announced, our annual spring concert, occasional joint programs with other area choruses and special music for festival celebrations including Christmas Eve and Easter.

Austin Opus 1011 Orchestral Pipe Organ
Our grand Austin Opus 1011 Orchestral Pipe Organ turned 100 years old in 2021! We are going through detailed and complex restoration to ensure that our Austin Pipe Organ continues to make beautiful music for years to come. While St. Paul's Church has long been recognized as Louis Comfort Tiffany’s greatest interior masterpiece, the music program at St. Paul’s traces its own distinguished history back to the parish founding in 1804 with the first vested choir in the City of Troy.
In 1921, Troy industrialist C.W. Tillinghast Barker, commissioned Austin Organs, Inc. of Hartford, Connecticut, to install a grand orchestral pipe organ in St. Paul’s Church as a memorial to his mother, Francis Southwick Barker. This magnificent instrument features thousands of pipes, mechanical switches, bellows, pneumatic actions, leather hinges, air boxes, and copper alloy reeds. Much of this is suffering from age-related deterioration. Some sections of the organ do not work properly, the console controls are out of date, and 100 years of dust and dirt have accumulated.
After 100 years of joyful, inspiring, and praiseful music, we must make needed repairs, replace outdated and broken parts, and thoroughly clean this wonderful musical instrument. With the enthusiastic support of the Trustees of the church, we are committed to preserving this awe-inspiring treasure for another 100 years or more.
